  • St Gerard’s School, Ireland – New Junior School Wing

The new school building was to be designed to reflect the school’s core values of collaboration and learning together.

Overview

Zioxi were asked to put together innovative and exciting furniture proposals for the new library, collaborative spaces and classrooms. The new library at first floor level is given prominence with full-height glazing to take advantage of the breath-taking views of Bray Head and the sea beyond. Zioxi’s furniture proposal was designed with these stunning views in mind, the organically shaped shelving units are of varying heights to allow glimpses of the view wherever you are within the library.

The furniture which was chosen for the library space aids collaborative style learning  – for example the agile T41 tables and S41 soft stools can be rearranged to accommodate varying sized groups to work together comfortably. The integration of mobile powerHubs and desk mounted powerDomes allows technology to be seamlessly integrated into the furniture plan.

Zioxi used the BookHive and BookWorm shelving units to provide lots of storage and display space for books of all shapes and sizes. The interior space in the BookHive also provides an area for small group activities, whilst the curved shape of the BookWorm helps to guide visitors through the space.

With our fabulous new library, reading has really taken off in our Junior School – and the library is the place to be from early morning to late evening. (Deirdre Farrell, Headmistress of St Gerard’s School)
